The first published Q magazine was issued October 1986. The magazine is aimed at gentlemen who are of an older generation who are still buying CD’s but still use new technology. Q magazine has a demographic profile of the age range between 35 and 50, with a social status group B, C. Q magazine is of a higher standard of photography and printing, the magazine talks about fashion, style, food, movies, music and technology.
Q magazine has a red background with a white Q as there masthead this makes its masthead eye catching and familiarising for the readers. The masthead is always in the same place and always the same colour and font, the image is above the masthead because readers what to know who’s in the magazine but still realise its Q magazine. The main image fits around the masthead and the cover lines. The main image is an ECU distance & Madonna has eye contact with the camera, making it sexual and intriguing capturing the male reader, the lighting of the image is sharp and strong making Madonna look radiant and powerful. The image has clearly been photo shopped making Madonna look a lot younger and glowing. The front cover also has another image of a women, the image is taken from a worms view making the women look powerful; she has also took a wide stance adding to the powerful look. The only selling line is ‘best British albums, as voted by you’. This makes the reader feel important and part of the magazine, drawing them in. The cover lines are shot with the name of the artist in a bold red font, making them stand out. The bar code is on the side standing out with the price and date on it for the readers to see. The price is £3.90 showing that the audience must be B, C class to afford the magazine every week. The colour scheme of this magazine is red, white and black these colours go well together and fit the masthead style. These colours aren’t girly colours as the magazine is aimed at men. Madonna is the main attraction to this issue so her name has been put in a bright red colour so it stands out against the other magazines. There are other texted telling people about who else is in the magazine issue before opening the magazine; the text matches the Madonna sign. There is a rectangle graphic design over the top of the masthead telling people where the bumper issue is if they want to flick straight to it. The special advertisement for a women’s magazine matches the bumper issue graphic. There is a clear band across the bottom of the magazine advertising a special feature before they open the magazine. The magazine is advertising a women’s magazine catering for a wider audience maybe the wives of the men buying the q magazine.
